Waterwheels
An early example of hydropower is the use of waterwheels to lift water.
In the Northern Cape province of South Africa, in the lower Orange region quite a number of waterwheels exist that raise water to a higher level to irrigate fields.
Driving force is the velocity of the water in the irrigation canals.
