Micro hydropower case studies
Cajamarca Peru

On this page you'll find some photographs of the hydroscheme near Cajamarca in Peru run by some Christian group. The owner of the small hydro scheme is the Cooperative "Atahualpa Jerusalen" in Cajamarca.

It has a Pelton turbine of a rotor of 400 mm, 3 injects (without nozzles), vertical shaft and 35 kW output. The site has a head of 50 m head with 110 l/s flow and a PVC penstock. To control the voltage a Load Controller with water resistances is used.

The electrical service is for 85 families but all the members of the co-operative are benefited indirectly (900 families). They use the electricity for: lighting, grain mills, carpentry, milk process, communication and other.

The photos on this page were taken by the son of Joseph Hartvigsen, who is a missionary for  "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints", in the Peru Trujillo Mission.

the inscription above the pelton relief outside (5 Juan) is referring to the 5th verse of St. John chapter 9 in the bible
