The Halfway Ranch in Kamloomps, British Columbia, is going to be home to a new microhydro system financed by the provincial government. BCLocalNews.com reports the ranch is receiving C$40,000 to build and operate its own microhydro generating plant. The funding comes from the provincial government's Innovative Clean Energy fund. When completed, the new system is expected to generate a maximum of 25 kW of electricity. Astrid Ruder, who co-owns the ranch with her husband Wilifred, noted the installation will offer substantial savings for their operation. "At this time and age when farming really doesn’t pay, it is a great relief," she says. "Especially if it does some good to other people, too." Additional information: Full article |
